In December 2011 the United Nations General Assembly marked the 21st of March the World Down Syndrome Day, celebrated each year since 2012. The General Assembly also invited all member states, relevant organizations of the United Nations, other international organizations, as well as civil society, including non-governmental organizations and the private sector, to celebrate the World Down Syndrome Day in an appropriate manner to spread awareness of Down Syndrome.
