On the Tragic Death of Maria Kaczynska

Poland’s First Lady Maria Kaczynska with Mr. Hassan Ali Bin Ali, Chairman of Shafallah Center
I was shocked and saddened to learn today of the death of the Polish President Lech Kaczynski, his wife Maria Kaczyńska, and their official delegation while on a diplomatic trip to Russia.
I came to know Maria as a compassionate and dedicated advocate for the intellectually and physically disabled. Every year since 2007, she attended the Shafallah Center for Children With Special Needs’ Global Forum in Doha Qatar.
Together with First Ladies from Africa, South America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East she supported our mission to create a just society for the disabled. She understood the strength of her example as a force for social change and, through Poland’s First Lady Maria Kaczynska with Mr. Hassan Ali Bin Ali, Chairman of Shafallah Center the solidarity of her fellow First Ladies, the power to raise the world’s expectations for those with special needs. Indeed, she helped raise the expectations of the disabled for themselves.
For this, the world owes her a debt of gratitude. For this, we mourn her loss.
